The Franciscan Sisters of Allegany
Ministries
Originally founded to educate the Catholic youth of the Allegany, NY, area, the Allegany Franciscans were soon called to expand their ministries geographically and professionally.

From small beginnings in Allegany, the sisters rapidly expanded their education ministry all along the east coast of the United States and abroad to Jamaica, Brazil, and Bolivia.
Hospitals
Called in 1883 to come to the aid of a hospital in Boston, the sisters jumped into the world of healthcare, founding and administering hospitals and nursing homes in the United States and Brazil.
Around the World
The Allegany Franciscans became the first American congregation to have a foreign mission in 1879, when they assimilated a mission in Kingston, Jamaica, originally established by a Scottish Congregation. Since the, the sisters' international presence has expanded to Brazil and Bolivia.
Associate Way of Life
Established in 1989, members of the Associate Way of Life strive to live the Gospel and Franciscan values while maintaining their chosen lifestyle.
